A locked app opened without the Nudge screen

Updated Oct 14, 2026

Short answer

Usually one of four things: a timer you started is still running, Screen Time access for Nudge got turned off, the app isn't in your locked list anymore, or your iPhone restarted and Nudge hasn't been opened since. Open Nudge once and check each below.

1. A timer is still running

If you unlocked the app earlier, it stays open until your time runs out. Open Nudge to see what's unlocked and for how long.

2. An Unblocked schedule or the Emergency Pass is on

A Pro "Unblocked" schedule opens apps during the hours you set. The Emergency Pass (press and hold the Nudge icon, then "Unblock Apps Now") unblocks everything until midnight. Both keep apps open on purpose. Starting a new session ends the pass early.

3. Screen Time access was turned off

Nudge needs Screen Time access to lock anything. Open Settings, tap Screen Time, and make sure Nudge is still allowed. Then open Nudge so it can lock your apps again.

4. Your iPhone restarted

After a restart, unlock your phone and open Nudge once. That makes sure everything is locked the way you left it.

5. The app isn't on your list

Reinstalling or updating an app can drop it from your picks. Open Nudge, check your locked apps, and add it back. If you use the website version in Safari, lock the website too.

Tapping unlock does nothing

Unlocking from a block screen uses a notification from Nudge. If notifications are off, the block screen says "Notifications are off." Open Settings, tap Notifications, then Nudge, and turn on Allow Notifications. If it says "Do Not Disturb active," allow Nudge in Settings > Focus. In the meantime, you can open Nudge directly to unlock.

Still not working?

Email hello@nudgefocus.co with your iPhone model, iOS version and Nudge version (in Nudge's settings). A screenshot of what you see helps a lot.
